Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy > What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is the use of prescribed medical-oxygen as a therapy for a variety of health conditions and diseases. 100% oxygen is breathed while in a hyperbaric chamber. The pressure in the chamber is increased between 1.5 to 3 times ambient pressure. The high level of oxygen in the breathed air leads to high levels of oxygen in the blood and all tissues. This decreases swelling of damaged tissue and mitigates over-reactive immune response without suppressing the immune function. As therapy continues, pro-angiogenic (blood vessel creating) and hematopoietic (red and white blood cell creating) stem cell mobilization increases and inflammation decreases which leads to optimizing the healing process.
